At The English Chess Company, we want you to feel confident when ordering from us. This policy is designed to make returns clear and straightforward, while fully respecting your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Change of Mind
If you change your mind, you must notify us within 14 days of receiving your order.
Once you have told us you wish to cancel, you then have a further 14 days to return the goods.
This right applies in accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Returned Items
Returned items should be unused and in their original condition.
Please take reasonable care of the goods while they are in your possession.
If an item is returned with handling beyond what is necessary to inspect it, we may make a deduction from the refund to reflect any loss in value, as permitted by law.
Return Postage
For change-of-mind returns, the customer is responsible for the cost of return postage.
We recommend using a tracked and insured service and keeping proof of postage.
Please ensure goods are packaged properly for return, as we cannot accept responsibility for items damaged in transit back to us due to inadequate packaging.
Refunds
Refunds are normally made to the original payment method unless you request store credit instead.
Where a cancellation is made under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, we will refund the item price and the standard outbound delivery charge originally paid, where applicable.
Refunds are processed within 14 days of receiving the returned goods, or receiving evidence that they have been sent back.
Damaged, Faulty or Incorrect Goods
If your item arrives damaged, faulty, or incorrect, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.
We ask that any transit damage is reported promptly, ideally within 48 hours, so that we can investigate with the courier efficiently.
Please email us at sales@englishchesscompany.com with your order details and clear photographs where possible.
This request for prompt reporting does not affect your statutory rights.
Faulty Goods and Your Rights
If goods are faulty, not as described, or not of satisfactory quality, your rights are governed by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
In appropriate cases, consumers have a short-term right to reject faulty goods within 30 days of delivery.
Where a repair or replacement is appropriate, we will bear the necessary costs involved, including postage.
Store Credit
If you prefer, we can issue store credit instead of a refund.
Store credit can be used against future purchases.
Consumer Rights
This policy does not affect your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
